Emery Place Celebrates Betty Kutin’s Dedication to Cedar Rapids Animal Shelter

March 4, 2024

Emery Place, a senior living community managed by Jaybird Senior Living in the greater Cedar Rapids area, proudly recognizes Betty Kutin, a resident, for her incredible volunteer work with Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control.

For over 15 years, Betty has been a shining example of kindness and dedication, supporting the shelter and helping countless cats find loving homes.

To celebrate Betty’s contributions, Emery Place organized a surprise “Dr. Seuss Day Happy Hour.” Betty was joined by members and volunteers from the Animal Care and Control team and was presented with the “Making a Difference Award” for her outstanding service.

Reflecting on her journey, Betty shared, “I started volunteering with Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control whenever my employer would allow us to take time off work to give back to the community during the Cedar Rapids Flood of 2008. I just fell in love with cats, and they were always so grateful for someone to play with them, cuddle, and show affection towards them. Over the 15 plus years of volunteering the deep relationships have grown between myself and the other volunteers. They have become my second family, that’s why my surprise party on Saturday meant so much to me. I feel a strong connection to the team and a sense of accomplishment helping the cats find a forever home after coming into the shelter.”

Emery Place’s Dare to Dream program aims to fulfill residents’ dreams, like Betty’s surprise celebration, highlighting the importance of community support in animal welfare.

“We’re thrilled to celebrate Betty’s dedication to animal welfare. Her kindness has touched the lives of animals and people in our community,” said Michael Guinane, Life Enrichment Coordinator at Emery Place.

Join us in congratulating Betty Kutin for her extraordinary commitment to making a difference for our furry friends and the community.
